Owning it is Sexy

I encourage everyone to be whoever they are; whoever they want to be. In all shapes, sizes and creeds (as long as we’re respectful of all).
If you choose to be active, why do you do it? There is no wrong answer.

I write down my goals every morning. I have a daily reminder at 7 AM in my calendar to do this. I’m human; I don’t actually do it every day. I probably do 6 days per week. I don’t have body or activity-based goals because I know how much sweating does for me so I crave it.

My why is to feel good and be strong and conditioned for any of life’s activities. I work out as often as possible. What does that mean? I work out 3-4 days per week. I’m 36. Not the HIIT-based animal that I was in my 20s. I get sore after workouts and I pay attention to this and let my body heal, rest, recover and grow stronger. I’m also deskbound so between recovery and being in bad positions a lot during the day, I stretch 2-3 times per day for 10-20 minutes per session and walk a few miles on my rest days. This is easy to do in NYC, where I live. But man, it’s easy to do anywhere! Bundle up and enjoy the fresh air and the vitamin D!

I work out 3-4 days per week because it makes me better at everything else I do. Most importantly, I simply feel better. I feel energized. I feel clear-headed. I can tear through annoying or challenging work and make the phone calls I have been avoiding after a workout. I feel strong and empowered. I sleep better. 10 PM rolls around and if I gave it my all during a workout I am tired and eagerly ready to hit the sack.

So where am I going with all this?

If you have goals, state your why. Do it. Now. Write it down.

Next, write down a tactical plan to get there. Depending on you and your why, maybe this isn’t needed. If you’re just winging it and happy, great! But if not, it’s time to stop being weak and own your life. You’re in control. It’s about making it a priority. No more blaming or making excuses.

Break it down. When will you go to the grocery store? When will you cook a big batch of food for the week?

Plan to work out hard for 3 days this upcoming week and then see how much rest your body feels like it needs. Feel it out. If you get 3 good days in, that’s an amazing foundation.
